We may be a company “only” offering professional cleaning, home maintenance, and handyman services, but our ultimate goal is for our clients to be happy, healthy, and peaceful inside their homes. This is why, in this article on our blog, we’ve decided to help you with some basic interior design rules, that will guide you whether you’re buying or renovating your place. It’s important to know and follow all the tips below, in order to have a fulfilling life since your property is the place where you spend most of your time (sleep included).

1. Always start simple. If your house has brick walls, which prevent you from using the color scheme you want, don’t be afraid to paint over them. It’s always better to have a monochrome wall to start with, instead of an already textured one. This will allow you to let your imagination run wild when it comes to decorating each room, without them being overloaded visually and stylistically. In other words, use the KISS principle (keep it as simple as possible);

2. Measure twice, buy once. Even if you already set your eyes on the queen-sized bed of your dreams, both literally and figuratively, you should always measure the dimensions of your usable space before adding it to the cart. This way, you’ll make sure that you have enough space to roam around it, as well as add different interior design accessories. The same advice should be applied to sofas and rugs too, which are other large items that could stand in the way of your happiness;

3. Don’t be afraid to mix textures. Although it might sound counterintuitive, mixing different textures is actually very good interior design advice. You don’t have to take our word for it – try it for yourself and see how good the result looks! “Always mix materials and add texture: metal with wood, rattan or natural woven fabrics with lacquered furniture or walls”, specialists in the field recommend. This way, you’ll obtain the glossy magazine look, instead of a dull house, with all rooms looking and feeling the same;

4. Light the room from different places. Another important aspect you should take into consideration is light. It shouldn’t come from only one place (or source), but rather from different ones. For example, in addition to a single overhead pendant, you should also add a few lamps on different levels (on the desk, on the shelf, etc.). It will create a… visible effect, and it allows you to personalize lighting, by turning them on or off in turn, during the morning, evening, and even night (for example, a night light);

5. Don’t forget functionality. Last but not least, even if interior design is important, of course, the functionality should be your top priority since, as we already mentioned, you’ll spend so much time in your home. Instant visual impact is one thing, but having a piece of furniture that is completely useless and only takes up space is a complete no-no. We hope that all these tips helped you get an idea about how you should treat your new or newly renovated house!
