How to make your kitchen countertops shine like new?

Although many people minimize their importance, countertops are real “business cards” of your kitchen. Whenever you or your guests enter the room, they are one of the first things to get noticed, and, if they are clean and shine like new, it’s a sign that the whole kitchen is also well taken care of. However, if you don’t clean them before and after preparing or serving food, dirt will start to accumulate, and it will be much harder to get rid of it in no time. This is why we’ve decided to dedicate a blog post, especially to this topic.

Of course, there is no “universal” method to clean kitchen countertops since they are very different in terms of material. Our experts in cleaning services are aware of this and have a solution for every situation. For this article, we chose to focus on the four most common countertop materials: solid surface, polished rock, ceramic tiles, and laminate. After reading the tips shared by our highly-trained professionals, you can decide if you DIY or ask for their services. Without further ado, here’s what we recommend:

Solid surface kitchen countertops. Since they are made from polyester and acrylics, it’s not really difficult to make these countertops shine like new anytime. However, if they have a matte or semigloss finish, they require a bit more attention. Simply mix a teaspoon of dish soap with water, or apply an ammonia-based cleaner to get the job done. Avoid cleaners with residues since they could cloud the surface;

Polished rock countertops. Granite and marble have a natural shine after polishing, and you have to seal the countertop to prevent food and oil stains from impregnating the surface (experts recommend reapplying the sealant yearly). Also, fruit juices, carbonated beverages, and other natural acids can affect the surface of marble if left in place for too long. However, a steam cleaner or a dishwashing liquid, isopropyl alcohol & water mix will do the job;

Ceramic tiles kitchen countertops. When it comes to ceramic tiles kitchen countertops, dirt and grime have to be removed regularly and thoroughly, to prevent them from looking unclean. Normally, a white vinegar & water mix (with the ratio of 1/4 cup of white vinegar to 1 gallon of water) is enough, but you shouldn’t forget to finish with a wipe down of club soda so that the tiles will shine as they should;

Laminate countertops. Last but not least, laminate countertops are an inexpensive and less durable choice than the previously mentioned ones. The best way to protect them is to use a cutting board and not cut or chop items directly on their surface. When it comes to cleaning them, you shouldn’t need more than a mild detergent & warm water mix, followed by wiping down with a clean cloth. However, you should be careful that water doesn’t flood the surface or get close to the seams, as this can cause the countertop to swell.
