The most creative solutions to deodorize carpets, in between our “visits”

Removing bad odors from a carpet can be one of the most difficult, annoying, and time-consuming home chores, as long as you don’t use our highly-advanced carpet cleaning services, considered by most of our clients the best in the Greater Fredericksburg Area, VA (including the counties of Culpeper, Caroline, Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George, Louisa, and Orange). However, you can’t call us to “visit” day after day (although we would be more than happy to assist you at any given time), therefore you have to find solutions on your own.

By reading this article further, you’ll find out some of the most creative ways to deodorize carpets, using substances that you wouldn’t have thought of too soon. Of course, baking soda and white wine vinegar are two of the most accessible solutions, both literally & figuratively, but how about essential oils, coffee granules, onions, or… simply opening a window? Most certainly, these are only temporary fixes, until our highly-trained experts take over with their hot water extraction method, also called steam cleaning, considered the most efficient carpet cleaning process today.

Essential oils

Essential oils can be a great natural replacement for air fresheners, with the important mention that they can eliminate bacteria & germs. Whether you opt for lemon, orange, lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint, essential oils will leave your carpets, as well as your room, full of a spectacular & healthy smell. They work either mixed into a bottle of white wine vinegar or placed into a bowl of baking soda. Mist or damp the affected area, for thorough cleaning;

Coffee granules

Coffee is effective not only for waking you up but also for “waking up” the bad odors that reside inside your favorite carpet. Its strong smell can mask or even remove the others, by simply placing some grinds or granules next to the affected area, overnight. Another solution would be to use a coffee-scented candle, if you don’t mind the whole room smelling like the Starbucks in the neighborhood, for at least a couple of days. Through an irony of fate, coffee is also responsible for some of the toughest carpet stains;

Onions

Another option would be to simply cut an onion in half and place it near the affected place, as it will act like a “magnet” for bad smells, absorbing them while losing its own odor. This way, compared to the situation above with coffee, your room won’t be filled with the strong, but unpleasant smell of onions, which could even make you cry. Instead, a fresh atmosphere will be obtained;

Open the window

Last but not least, by simply opening the window, you’ll not only obtain a much fresher smell inside the house (your carpet included), but also you’ll cut air pollutants (as they normally are 2 to 5 times greater inside than outside). If you own a particularly smelly rug, leave it outside on a sunny day, as the combination between the air & the sun acts like a natural disinfectant.

Of course, we remind you that all these are temporary solutions and the only true way to “solve the case” is to call HBSOnTime.com, with our unique CHAT approach: applying chemicals, using heat to speed up the reaction, agitation for proper chemical penetration, and dwell time, before soil extraction is attempted.
